1638 Restaurant & Wine Bar by Nacho Manzano: Michelin Recommendation and New Tasting Menu

Just one year after opening, 1638 Restaurant & Wine Bar by Nacho Manzano has received a Michelin Recommendation in the Michelin Guide Portugal 2026, highlighting its rapid emergence within the country’s fine dining scene.

The recognition coincides with the launch of a new tasting menu by Chef Nacho Manzano, whose three Michelin-starred restaurant Casa Marcial has established him as a leading figure in Spanish cuisine. The updated menu introduces 10- and 12-course blind tasting formats, refining the restaurant’s contemporary Iberian approach. Drawing on the culinary connection between Asturias and Northern Portugal, the menu focuses on seasonal ingredients and balanced compositions, moving between coastal and inland influences. The experience is paired with a curated Douro wine selection featuring Kopke Port wines and still wines from Quinta de São Luiz and Quinta da Boavista.

Pricing is $120 for 10 courses and $155 for 12 courses, with optional wine pairings available from $50 to $90.

Kopke Wine & Jazz – Music Club Brings New Cultural Energy to Gaia

In time for the summer travel season, Tivoli Kopke Porto Gaia has opened the Kopke Wine & Jazz – Music Club, a lounge concept located within the historic cellars of Kopke Port Wine House, the world’s oldest Port wine producer. Surrounded by 2.5 million litres of aging Port wine, the venue combines live music, wine, and art in an intimate setting. Programming includes jazz, blues, and curated performances.

The club is open Tuesday to Saturday from 7:00pm to midnight, with live music Thursday to Saturday at 9:30pm. Hotel guests receive complimentary access, while external visitors may attend live music evenings for $27, including a glass of Kopke Port. The venue also offers guided cellar visits and wine tastings from Tuesday to Saturday at 7:15pm and 7:45pm, featuring Kopke Ports and Douro DOC wines from Quinta de São Luiz and Quinta da Boavista.

A menu of light dishes—such as oysters, burrata, carpaccio, caviar with blinis, and charcuterie—is designed to pair with the wine and cocktail program, which includes Port-based creations alongside classic and non-alcoholic options.

The space incorporates contemporary artworks by Elías Crespín, Anthony James, Joan Miró, and Manolo Valdés, alongside an illuminated display of vintage Port wines. According to Francisco Viana Brito, General Manager of Tivoli Kopke Porto Gaia, “At Kopke Wine & Jazz – Music Club, wine, music, and art come together in a single environment, creating a new cultural reference point for Gaia and the Porto region.”

Looking ahead, the venue will introduce additional programming, including wine dinners and curated cultural experiences.

About Kopke

Founded in 1638, even before the demarcation of the Douro Demarcated Region in 1756, Kopke is the oldest Port Wine House in the world. Established by Nicolau Kopke, the company evolved from a diversified trading business into a renowned Port wine producer. The acquisition of Quinta de S. Luiz in 1922 further consolidated its role as an important Port wine estate.

Kopke is one of the leading brands within Kopke Group by Escotet Family Estates — known until mid‑2025 as Sogevinus — representing over 75% of external market sales, particularly in the Netherlands, the United States, South Korea, Denmark and the United Kingdom.

Its extensive library of aged wines, including remarkably rare White and Tawny Ports, has long established Kopke’s reputation as a producer of truly exceptional Port wines.
