December 11, 2025: Following a complete renovation, Tivoli Hotels & Resorts’ Tivoli Coimbra will reopen in April 2026 with a five-star rating, offering a refined setting personalized services, and an elevated Tivoli experience in a prime city-center location.

Conceived by the hotel’s owner, Coimbra Jardim, in partnership with architecture firm A3 Arquitetos and interior designers Broadway Malyan, the project transforms one of Coimbra’s most emblematic hotels with a fresh, contemporary look.

From the façade to the guestrooms, the renovation introduces updates across the entire property, along with refreshed public spaces, including the lobby, breakfast restaurant, and Simone Urban Bar & Kitchen. All 100 guestrooms and suites will feature modern layouts, premium finishes, and state-of-the-art technology. The number of suites will increase from four to 14, including the Double Terrace Suites with a deck and private pool.

Public areas will feature contemporary design, a new bar, and two dining venues located on the ground and first floors, connected by a central staircase. A new wellness area will include an indoor pool, gym, treatment rooms, jacuzzi, sauna, and Turkish bath. Event and meeting spaces will also be fully redesigned for modern functionality.

Located in the heart of Coimbra, the hotel offers convenient access to major attractions, monuments, and shopping. Crossed by the Mondego River and positioned between Lisbon and Porto, Coimbra is one of Portugal’s oldest cities, known for its strong academic and cultural heritage. This identity is anchored by the University of Coimbra—one of the oldest in Europe and among Portugal’s largest. Founded in 1290 by King D. Dinis, the university moved between Lisbon and Coimbra before settling permanently along the Mondego in 1537.

In more recent history, the university’s student community played an important role in advocating for freedom and democracy, actively resisting the Estado Novo dictatorship. Coimbra also served as the capital of the Kingdom of Portugal until 1255. The city is home to the Monastery of Santa Cruz, the burial place of D. Afonso Henriques, Portugal’s first king, and later designated as the country’s first National Pantheon.

Rates at Tivoli Coimbra start from USD $212 for a Superior Room, including breakfast for two. Reservations are available beginning April 1, 2026. For more information, visit https://www.tivolihotels.com/pt/tivoli-coimbra.
